It’s not totally unexpected. When you first informed me of your relocation plans, I had an inkling this might occur. You are not the only one who is cash strapped here, companies are also tightening their belts as they find it more difficult to secure credit from financial institutions as the financial woes had brought several banks to their knees.

Everything has its own time. Imagine if you were to go there in this climate, you may have to contend with same pay, pay for your own air ticket, lodging and other relevant expenses. It really doesn’t seem feasible right? Might as well wait a while till economy improves and you can settle for something better.

On your friend…my close friend once told me. “Money and friends don’t mix.” You are really not alone. My close friend lent her friend $1000 once, a friend who is earning as much as her and both are in the finance field. It took her six months and much difficulty to get the money back. The guy even went on holiday within that six months.

My ex colleague once told me something I will never forget. “Spend within your means. Don’t overspend and incur too much debt.”

Friends are great as companions you can rely on for emotional comfort through good and bad times but they are not meant to be ATMs to either party. Everyone has to earn his or her own keep and everyone has to keep a watchful eye over his or her expenditure and spend within his or her own means.
